Leading Change 2016 ( Activity-1)

 STARTING HOMEWORK
 ACTIVITY-1
  1. Find three definitions of leadership from people you know or from famous leaders
(you might find these online). Share these and comment whether you agree with
    them or not and why.
1."The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things." Ronald Reagan
I agree to the above statement as the first and foremost quality in any leader should be to identify the talent of his team and provide a working atmosphere in order to obtain maximum output. Leader is just a stimulus who stimulates others and let them do wonders with their talent. The all he needs is to channelize the talent and give others freedom to express their potential.
2."A leader...is like a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind." Nelson Mandela
I agree to the above statement as a leader should always be in a supporting role rather than commanding role. The best leader is one who guides well on the path and let others discover new avenues. At times leader has to lead by example but again that should just be to instil confidence in the team members. A leader should be so easily accessible that people feel free to come up with new ideas, to discuss their problems and they should have a confidence that their opinions won’t be discarded without proper rational. A leader should never be authoritative, rather he should be supportive like a Shepherd and if he manages to do that, team would always surprise him with excellent outcomes.
3."A leader is a dealer in hope." Napoleon
I agree to the above statement as a leader is never supposed to get bogged down if he comes across some challenges. He should be able to make others believe that there is always light at the end of tunnel and even when all spirits are low, he should be able to encourage and bring others back on track to confront the challenges and come out of it successfully. History has proven time and again that greatest leaders are always born out of adversity and when the society loses all hope, one person stands for them and shows them the path.

2. Share what your own definition of leadership is.
Leadership is an art of channelizing the energy of a group of people with diverse opinions to explore their potential in order to achieve a common goal. A good leadership has the capability to bring unimaginable outcomes. A good leader never imposes his opinion on others, instead he simply comes up with the idea, be open to ideas and leave no stone unturned in extending his support. A leader is not supposed to tell how to do things, instead he simply has to be clear about what to do and rest can be taken care by his team members given the co-ordeal working atmosphere which would bring best out of them. And if a leader is able to provide this, results are always surprising.
