Leading Change 2016 ( Activity-3)

Activity-3

.    1.What does The Commonwealth mean to you?

Commonwealth for me defines actions/visions which are common and for the good of all. Actions which would benefit all, Rules which would unite all and Goals which would be common for all. Keeping the core values in mind, some basic actions should be implemented in all member nations in order to maintain peace, provide a development platform, to eradicate existing problems and to meet all future global challenges.

2. The Commonwealth Charter includes 16 core values and principles of The Commonwealth. Which of the Commonwealth values and principles do you hold as most important to you as a leader and why?

All the 16 core values and principles mentioned in Commonwealth Charter are of equal importance but as a leader and considering the work I’m doing at present, following two stands out for me:

Tolerance, Respect and Understanding

As a society we should give utmost importance to this principle. We should be tolerant enough, have respect for all and understand basic needs and problems of all sections of society in order to make everyone feel like being an integral part of society. Minorities, Outcast, Disadvantaged & Socially backward are some of the terms which we should get rid of in order to make our society/country/world a better place to live for all where all will have equal opportunities to excel and they would not be judged by their caste, creed, religion or color of their skin.

Gender Equality

As a growing society, we should provide greater emphasis on Gender Equality in order to tap everyone’s potential for the greater good of all. We are living in an era where on one side women are matching men in every walk of life and on the other hand girls are considered burden for family and killed even before birth. This harsh reality needs to be addressed.
When I talk about Gender Equality, I would also be an advocate of all other genders present on earth other than male and female and Transgender are one of them whom we call ‘The Third Gender’. All should have equal rights, equal opportunities and equal status in society Irrespective of their gender.
